The grapes for this inaugural 2005 Rockpile Zinfandel were sourced from a single block vineyard known as Jack's Cabin overlooking scenic Lake Sonoma. The wine is a lush complex of bright red fruit and exotic spices. The palate is rich and chewy and echoes the aromas of raspberry and Bing cherry while soft vanilla oak brackets the jammy fruit center and enhances the well-balanced composition. Very integrated and food-friendly, the finish is languid and extends from one sip to the next. This delicious zinfandel, which captures the essence of what makes Rockpile the benchmark for this uniquely California varietal, will continue to develop far into the future.
